On Monday, April 22nd from 10:00am – 4:30pm at the Double Tree Hotel, the Urban League of Portland, in partnership with Clear Channel Media + Entertainment, hosted its 20th Annual Career Connections Job Fair.  The Career Connections fair featured 55 employers from health care, retail, construction, government, non-profit, and corporate sectors from Portland and its surrounding metropolitan area. Employers looked to the Urban League of Portland as leader in the region to help them recruit qualified, skilled, and diverse job candidates.

The employers were hiring for positions from entry-level to professional, from management to executive, ranging from construction and retail to government and corporate opportunities.  500 job seekers in the Portland region used the time to connect with a wide array of Portland-area employers who were actively seeking qualified candidates.  Urban League President and CEO Michael Alexander, pictured above, was pleased that the 2013 Career Fair was an exceptionally successful event, “We were encouraged with the level of engagement by local employers and trade unions with those who attended. The forum provided job seekers from a broad spectrum of the groups who make up our city with an opportunity to personally engage with over 50 prospective employers,” said Alexander. “We believe the level of participation by the business and skilled trade sector signals a strong desire on their part to help employ and retain the skills that are resident in the Greater Portland area.”

Thanks to the sponsorship provided by Clear Channel Media & Entertainment, Oregon Department of Transportation, the Pacific NW Carpenters Union, Cambia, Portland Development Commission, Oregon Lottery, and Comcast, the 20th Annual Career Connections Job Fair was able to include employer participants as varied Kaiser Permanente, Enterprise, NECA-IBEW, the City of Beaverton, United Way, US Bank, Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Oregon Health and Science University, New Seasons Market and The State of Oregon.
