CAP is currently hiring an HIV Prevention Specialist to provide community-based HIV/STI prevention services, primarily targeting MSM (men who have sex with men) and other populations disproportionately impacted by HIV. Working in collaboration with CAP’s Prevention Services staff and management, this role plans and implements a variety of prevention activities throughout Multnomah County. This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE position.
Core responsibilities include:
• Providing HIV and/or STI testing at a variety of on-going and one-time, event based testing sites, with an average of 2-3 testing shifts per week, or at least 40% of an average work week.
• Identifying and/or coordinating one-time, event based HIV testing opportunities in order to reach people at risk for HIV who may not access HIV testing and prevention services through traditional testing venues.
• Conducting community-based outreach in order to recruit priority populations into HIV/STI testing & prevention services through various in-person and social media/app based activities (i.e. Facebook, Grindr).
• Working with Prevention & Health Services team to update, print, and distribute promotional materials and assist with volunteer oversight at various locations central to CAP’s HIV testing program.
• Collaborating with the Prevention Services Team, community members, and relevant organizations in order build an effect network in order to reach MSM and other populations disproportionately impacted by HIV, especially MSM of color.
• Facilitating the distribution of condoms and safer sex supplies to locations frequented by priority populations, including identifying new sites and working with the Manager of Prevention Services to manage and maintain all safer sex material inventory for the Prevention Services team.
The person in this position is stationed in the CAP Davis Street office. Travel throughout the greater Portland Metro area and outer Multnomah County, as well as evening and weekend work are required. Occasional testing shifts may be done in Washington & Clackamas County. This position must be able to successfully complete trainings appropriate for operating HIV/STI testing technologies and screening protocols, including phlebotomy. This is a non-management, union-represented position.
• 2 years of experience working in Community Health or 1-year experience working in Community Health combined with a Bachelor’s Degree in human/social services field (social work, public or community health, psychology) or related field
• Experience conducting outreach or community organizing for at least one of the following groups; men who have sex with men, transgender individuals, communities of color, or people who inject drugs
• Strong cultural awareness of men who have sex with men, transgender, communities of color, and substance use issues and how this may affect or influence service delivery
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with accountability; exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism at all times
• Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with community stakeholders
• Demonstrated computer and keyboard proficiency using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and working knowledge of the internet including social media platforms and web-based applications
• Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
• Previous experience working in Multnomah County or demonstrated knowledge of Multnomah County communities most at risk for HIV
• Previous experience working with transgender individuals and/or with MSM of color
• Previous experience conducting HIV and/or STI counseling and testing, including phlebotomy and/or other sexual health services
• Knowledge of and/or experience with Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), including how to provide education about PrEP, how it works, and/or who may be appropriate for a referral for PrEP
• Previous professional or volunteer experience working in HIV prevention
• Verbal and written fluency in Spanish
Compensation: $37,744 annually, based on the union contract; employer-paid health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability and life insurance; 401(k) retirement plan with generous employer matching contribution, 125C cafeteria savings plan; generous vacation and health leave benefits.
