Growing Gardens

Growing Gardens is a Portland non-profit that uses the experience of growing food to build healthy, equitable communities. For over 20 years we have worked building home gardens, school gardens, and gardens in correctional facilities and helping thousands grow their own food.

In partnership with AmeriCorps, Growing Gardens seeks a individual passionate about community health and social justice to serve for 11 months as the Home Gardens Coordinator (HGC). The role of this position will be to strengthen the resources and support for English and Spanish-speaking families to grow food at home.  Through the efforts of this position, income-eligible families will receive the installation of Home Garden beds and three years of support including seeds, starts, tools, gardening classes, mentoring and support (80%).  The HGC will emphasize supporting neighborhood-based community organizers, coordinating acquisition and distribution of materials and supplies, organizing gardening classes and providing educational support through one-on-one garden visits.

Compensation: $12,630 paid over the term of service, $5, 815 education award, lone forebearance, basic medical insurance, training, networking opportunities, and professional development.
