Powell’s City of Books, the nation’s top independent bookseller, is looking for an Inventory Manager at our flagship location at 10th and West Burnside in downtown Portland, Oregon.

The Inventory Manager oversees product moving into and out of the Burnside Store. They supervise a large team of employees from the Inventory and Cashiering departments who perform a variety of functions including cashiering, customer service, shelving, internet order pulling, transfer receiving, returns, cycle counting, database maintenance, and related projects. This position will work in conjunction with the team of current Inventory Managers in developing staff and leading the team. Inventory Managers also spend a portion of their time as Managers on Duty, supporting store operations and staff throughout the store.

The position requires work experience in supervising, leading, and developing employees (retail management and/or bookstore management experience preferred). The position is process-oriented and requires strong leadership and analytical skills, demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Retail/bookstore inventory management experience is preferred.

The schedule for this position is 37.5 hours/week and will include both weekend days and will be comprised of mostly closing shifts (close at 10pm). Powell’s offers predictive schedules that don’t change from week to week.
