Reed College

We invite applications for an instrumentation chemist position at Reed College. The instrumentation chemist is responsible for managing research and teaching instrumentation (such as LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, NMR, UV-Vis, AA, FTIR, TGA, FPLC) in the Chemistry Department. This role reports to the faculty chair of chemistry.

Located in Portland, Oregon, Reed College is one of the country’s leading liberal arts colleges, offering a rigorous academic program to approximately 1,400 undergraduates.  The Reed chemistry program is designed to give students a broad, yet deep, understanding of chemical phenomena.

This is a full-time, exempt position working 37.5 hours per week.  The anticipated start for this position is July 2019. The salary for this position is $60,500 per year. Reed offers an exceptional benefits package.


-Instrumentation management, including troubleshooting and maintenance of the chemistry department instruments, installation and setup of new instruments
-Technical advising and support for faculty research including Senior Thesis/Independent Research Students
-Development and/or implementation of instrumentation in research and lab courses
-Documentation of instrument protocols and good-record keeping of maintenance and upkeep of instrumentation


PhD in Chemistry or biochemistry, or any combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job. Significant experience in the use of chemical and biochemical instrumentation in research and teaching environments.
