United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 555

United Food & Commercial Workers Local 555 is in the market for a Communications Director: is it you? It might be, if you are interested in applying your skills on behalf of 25,000 retail, healthcare, and manufacturing Union members with the largest private sector union in Oregon. You must be a pitch-perfect editor and writer, able to speak to a variety of audiences. Excruciating attention to detail while multitasking is paramount! At any given time, you’ll be juggling the management of every communication need for the union, from the website to social media to email to the press to print pieces galore (including a monthly labor newsletter and annual report as well as regular mailings to members). Member-centered communication comes above all else and must apply equally to folks who have been Union for a lifetime as well as those who have just joined Local 555 the week prior…and everyone in between. You’ll create an ongoing series of campaigns: for negotiations, political involvement, online presence, member engagement, and public awareness. Many unions run a one-person shop but here you’ll have the opportunity to work with and mentor one of the leading teams in the industry: comprised of a graphic designer, social media coordinator, and print shop/IT/web manager. You’ll always be learning new things, while simultaneously managing dozens (sometimes hundreds) of projects in addition to running point on behalf of your team. You must be a self-starter who is able to turn things around at light-speed and absorb constant internal/external feedback. You must be an excellent team-builder and problem-solver: someone who is willing to consider alternate points of view while still advocating for what you consider necessary. If you’re ready to hit the ground running on day one, please send a cover letter and resume to gro.555wcfunull@yerhpmuhs with “<your name> for Communications Director” in the subject line. The deadline to submit a cover letter and resume is noon on Friday, December 6, 2019.
