“When I found out I had the job I called my mom, I called everyone, my daughter, my children, and I called Debra (the Director of the Urban League of Portland’s Workforce Department)”
– Danielle Johnson, Community Liaison at The Urban League of Portland and Workforce client.

Danielle Johnson had been looking for a job in the nonprofit sector for over a month, she didn’t want just any job, she wanted a job where she could make a positive impact on her community. A friend advised her to come down to the Urban League of Portland and register for employment services.

She was able to meet with an Urban League Employment Specialist immediately after registering, he told her about a job opening that he felt would be a good fit for her and helped her update and refine her resume. “We looked at the job description together, and up played things on my resume that applied to the position, and downplayed or eliminated things that did not.”

Once her resume was ready Danielle was referred to the Director of Workforce Development.
“I got to meet one on one with the Director, she gave me some advice and tips on how to further improve my resume.”

Danielle says that she “absolutely would and have recommend the Urban League of Portland’s employment services to other job seekers. I think that what makes the program so great is that you get the personal touch, you don’t feel you are lost in the system, you feel you are the only one they are working with and they care about my success.”
