The Urban League of Portland’s team of volunteers was proud to serve at Faubion K-8 School. By far the largest project for the region’s Comcast Cares Day’s events, more than 250 employee volunteers worked hard to transform this school inside and out. We painted the teachers lounge, wiped down the lockers, deep-cleaned and refurbished the library, stenciled alphabet letters outside, laid new bark dust on the playground, tidied up the landscaping, re-planted the school garden, washed the windows and more! We were very excited to participate and help transform the school.
Comcast Cares Day is Comcast and NBC-Universal’s signature day of service and the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort. Across the entire Oregon and SW Washington region, nearly 1,800 volunteers cleaned, painted, fixed and gave back to our communities. In Portland, Comcast also partnered with Hands On Greater Portland, a program of United Way of the Columbia-Willamette, to recruit community volunteers to volunteer on Cares Day.
The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteered on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners, including the Urban League of Portland continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date Comcast has committed more than $12 million in grants to organizations nationwide.
