Van Jones, a regular CNN political commentator, author of two New York Times best-selling books, and former green jobs adviser to President Barack Obama, stopped by the Urban League of Portland on Wednesday, October 28th, 2015 to talk to community leaders about connecting low-opportunity youth to careers in technology.

Jones – the founder of Dream Corps, Rebuild the Dream, Green For All, the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, and Color of Change – spoke about the impact that encouraging low-opportunity youth to gain the skills they need to obtain high wage jobs in the technology sector could have on both the youths’ lives and the general well-being of the community.  He then facilitated a discussion with community leaders on how to best approach youth about these emerging opportunities.

Van Jones has been honored with numerous awards and featured on lists of high achievers, including: the World Economic Forum’s “Young Global Leader” designation; Rolling Stone’s 2012 “12 Leaders Who Get Things Done”; TIME’s 2009 “100 Most Influential People in The World”; the Root’s 2014 “The Root 100”, and the 2010 NAACP President’s Award.
