Community Outreach Phone Volunteer
Description: Call representatives of community organizations in Oregon and SW Washington to ask if they would like to be added to the Urban League of Portland’s mailing list. While you are calling you will also let them know about upcoming Urban League events like our Legislative Action Day and our upcoming career fair (there will be over 80 employers there!) . You will be given a script and trained by a member of the Urban League of Portland’s staff.
Required Skills: A pleasant phone manner. Ability to follow written instructions. Ability to enter information into spreadsheets. Fast learner.
Restrictions: Must be 18 years or older.
Time commitment: Minimum of 5hrs.
Date/Time: Calls will be made during business hours.

Community Outreach Researcher
Description: Research community and professional organizations in Oregon and Southwest Washington to assemble lists of contacts for our phone volunteers to make outreach calls to. You will be trained by a member of staff. You may volunteer remotely(from home) once you have been trained.
Required Skills: A fast learner who is able to work independently. Able to conduct internet research. Ability to enter information into a spreadsheet.
Restrictions: Must be 17 years or older.
Time commitment: Minimum of 5hrs.

Description: Help us get out the word about our annual Career Connections Job fair by hanging flyers.
Required Skills: Reliable, personable and able to work independently.

Tutors | Youth Programs
Description: Work with students in 6th-12th grade on various subjects. Help encourage homework completion and otherwise work as a mentor to the youth encouraging them to use their time productively.
Required Skills: High school degree, college experience preferred, ability to tutor in some subjects, experience working with youth is a plus
Restrictions: Must be 18 years or older and able to pass a background check.
Time commitment: Minimum 1.5 hours per week

Presenters/Workshop Leaders | Youth Programs
Description: Have a passion you want to share with youth? Want to inspire students of color in your community? Volunteer as a presenter or lead a workshop for the Urban League of Portland’s Youth Program! Prepare a brief presentation or workshop for middle school or high school students. The workshop or presentation can be on college readiness, professional skills, your profession, etc. We are looking for outside presenters to inspire our youth.
Required Skills: High school degree, college experience preferred, workshop or presentations should be prepared ahead of time.
Restrictions: Must be 18 years or older
Time commitment: 1 hour
Date/Time: Monday, Wednesday 5:30pm-6:30pm

Youth Program Administrative Help | Youth Programs
Description: Help organizing files, stuff envelopes, and organize mailings for the Youth Programs Department.
Required Skills: Able to use in Microsoft Excel, able to follow instructions, proficient writer.

Time commitment: 1-3 hours
Date/Time: Any weekday Monday-Thursday. Time must be arranged ahead of time.
