The Urban League of Portland conducts comprehensive youth programs that serve to shepherd the youth in our community and empower them to achieve. We foster interactive academic and real-world experiences that help students to develop leadership, life and social skills, self-esteem, and cultural pride. Urban League Youth programs are designed to prepare youth to be successful and encourage them to pursue post secondary education and professional careers. These programs include after school leadership programs for high school and middle school students and annual recreational and educational summer programs for middle school students, high school students, and young adults ages 18-25. Youth program services include listings of college scholarships, job readiness training, employment services, and internship opportunities.

The Urban League of Portland’s After School Leadership Program (Enrollment OPEN)

The After School Leadership Program is designed to provide extra support to African American and other high school students through 1×1 advocacy, homework club, leadership development training, post-secondary education workshops, and community service opportunities. The program aims to support youth as they learn and navigate the 5 core principles of leadership: Accountability, empowerment, interdependence, balance and leverage.

ASLP is held at the Urban League of Portland located at 10 N Russell St Portland OR 97227. The program is free, and bus tickets can be provided if needed.

Once enrolled, youth are able to take advantage of tutoring, advocacy/case management, and have potential to attend professional development opportunities both in state and out. This year alone, some of our youth attended March for Our Lives in Washington DC, Great Wolf Lodge Resort, National UL Youth Summit in Ohio, and a 4H leadership summit in Salem, OR.
