A Creative Writing Contest for Older Adults serviced by Urban League of Portland
The Urban League of Portland has empowered communities and changed lives since 1945. As we approach our 80th birthday, we want to engage our Youth and Older Adults even more. Our elders have kept us wise, and our youth have kept us energized. In our attempt to memorialize wisdom and energy, we are hosting A Love Letter to Portland, a creative writing contest for Youth and Seniors.
The Rules:
The mechanics are simple. Your Love Letter to Portland must be written in English, not more than 400 words. Love letters must be an original piece that is highly relevant today. Letters should be typed and uploaded no later than March 13, 2024. ULPDX Staff will judge letters based on relevance, clarity, and creativity.
To reduce any barriers, where needed a 2-minute video can be sent in lieu of a written letter.
To Enter:
Visit ulpdx.org and click Urban League of Portland Presents: A Love Letter to Portland to upload your love letter. The registration link will ask for your complete name, your Urban League of Portland affiliation, your age, and a contact number. The deadline for submission is on March 13, and a winner will be announced on March 30 on Urban League of Portland social media and at our older adult facilities.
Eligibility:
This creative writing contest is open to Urban League of Portland program participants who are at least 50 years older. Contestants should write a letter to Portland's next generation of leaders, school-age youth. Let’s keep our older adults engaged, by allowing our youth to hear from our elders in real-time.
