Thanks for Attending our Housing Resource Fair

The event, which served over 175 people, was a great success.

The Urban League of Portland hosted our first housing resource fair at our North Portland Offices this week, and we wanted to thank all those that attended.  Recognizing the crisis in our community, we hosted this event as a one-stop shop for our community to learn about the options for services, housing, and policies that are available to promote stable housing in our community.  We offered a series of “Know Your Rights", workshop sessions that empower renters to understand the laws that affect tenancy, tenant selection, and security deposits.  We offered record expungement to those with dated background issues that could serve as barriers to housing.  Attendees were able to access legal service clinics to clear up legal issues affecting their housing, and get critical homeowner and credit building education. We also offered housing advocacy and letter writing workshops, empowering renters with the tools they need to be strong self advocates.

Every workshop was full, with engaged community members building the skills to navigate our scarce housing market. Additionally, several housing-focused agencies and property management companies tabled at the event, bringing affordable housing opportunities to community members in need of safe and stable housing. Urban League extends a special thank you to all who attended.

Our next Housing Resource Fair will take place May 1, 2020. Register now, as capacity is limited.
