May Housing Update 2022

This year Urban League concentrated our efforts to improve the client experience via integrating services and programs across the agency.

With many robust programs and expanding services into new counties, it is important that we consider our program participants and ways to improve their client experiences. Community Empowerment was our focus this month. As a part of our initiative to integrate services as an agency, we opened an anonymous feedback system and hosted 4 internal meetings to address ways to support and retain employees. Our collective efforts and feedback resulted in us learning that employees are missing spending time in-person to team build and learn new and interesting aspects to separate roles. An in-person connection with fellow colleagues is critical to the League and our efforts to advance our mission because we know that we are better together as a unified staff.

Urban League is excited to announce that we launched 4 new affinity employee groups this month. The employee Affinity groups will include a Wellness Club, New Employee Club, Savings Club and Queer Resource Group each led by a variety of direct services, administrative and executive leadership staff.

The Purpose: Affinity groups are voluntary, employee-driven groups that are organized around a particular shared interest or dimension. UL envisions that affinity groups will be organized around the protected classes set forth in non-discrimination laws such as race, disability, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation or around other historical barriers to an equitable and inclusive work environment.

More like community empowerment, we continued educational workshops for the public. Our Financial Empowerment Collaborative is still going strong and hosting our final sessions geared towards Urban League employees. More than 45 Urban League staff are currently enrolled and participating in the FEC. Session 6 of the Financial Empowerment Collaborative is happening on May 20th from 1:00-2:00pm.
