Nkenge Harmon Johnson honored with PCUN’s Cipriano Ferrel Award 

Harmon Johnson recognized for civil rights work in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

 
Portland, OR – (11/08/24) Oregon farmworker rights organization PCUN is honoring Nkenge Harmon Johnson with the Cipriano Ferrel Award. Named after the late PCUN President the award committee “hopes to honor a true steward of our work the movement, someone that is a leader striving to uplift and empower others in the work while providing the necessary support to develop those leadership skills.”  

Harmon Johnson is the President and CEO of the Urban League of Portland. She will deliver a speech addressing the current state of civil rights. Themes of her speech will center on unity, justice, and community in a time of growing reactionary forces.   

The award will be presented at PCUN’s Harvesting Justice Gala, which is organized to support the labor rights of workers. The program begins tonight, Friday November 8th at 6:30. About Nkenge Harmon Johnson:  

As President and Chief Executive Officer for the Urban League of Portland, Nkenge Harmon Johnson has transformed the Urban League of Portland into the state’s largest Civil Rights organization. Nkenge grew up in Oregon, earned a degree in Business Administration from Florida A&M University, and a Law degree from Howard University. Prior to leading the Urban League, she served in the Obama Administration as well as in the office of the late Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee.
